This is a great item for the officer in your life or the enthusiast. This is a unique item for a promotional gift, award, graduation or retirement presentation. This item is an icon of historical policing, right up there with the Gamewell Box and the old style wooden baton.
This is our reproduction offering of the classic police hat worn during the Victorian Era from about the 1890's to pre-WWI by most big city departments. This one is modeled after the earliest example of the LAPD starched wool stove pipe hat with the hat cords and wreath badge that included the officer's badge number. Typically the dark helmets were worn during the October-May months and the gray or tan were worn during the summer months. Many departments gave up the hat cords and switched over to the 1" leather hat band or used a combo of both. As the LAPD phased out these hats/helmets, it is interesting to note that many of the surplus hats were sold off to the Mack Sennett Studios to be used in his Keystone Kop silent comedies!
If you can even find an original, expect to pay hundreds of dollars for this item and figure in restoration. This hat is offered as a stand alone item or comes with a display case as pictured above.
